finding reliable answers about how to protect, shelter, and support affected animals can be overwhelming. This page is dedicated to answering those critical questions for pet owners and animal lovers across the United States when a crisis arises. We are here to guide you on where to seek safe shelter with your pets, highlight legitimate, trusted organizations where you can safely send donations, and outline exactly what supplies are most needed for the animals left behind. Bookmark this page, as we will continually post timely, reliable information and practical resources whenever a disaster occurs to ensure no animal is left unprotected.
Louisiana has been hit with devastating flooding in Avoyelles Parish. These pictures only show a small fraction of what pets and rescues are facing down there. There is an imminent need to bring urgent flood relief support to displaced and homeless animals. Many have lost their homes to flooding and most still don't have electricity. Animals are facing aspiration from water, eye infections, and dehydration as the temperature continues to rise... and let's not forget the rattlesnakes and water moccasins cruising through the high water.
So... Atchafalaya River Rescue, Inc. needs our help!
Atchafalaya River Rescue is working tirelessly to help animals in need. Blankets, cleaning supplies, pet supplies, monetary donations, etc. are needed. They are calling on all volunteers, fosters, transporters, rescue partners, other organizations, donators ... because it takes everyone to help in a crisis such as this. And remember please, if you are not in the area and think you can't afford to give, a small donation of $5 can make a difference. So we are posting contact information and a QR code in which to donate, along with t-shirts where 100% of the proceeds is going to rescue efforts!
We are incredibly moved to share that the team at Chewy heard our "911 call" for help and immediately stepped up to answer the cry by making a generous donation to the Atchafalaya River Rescue. As this incredible rescue works tirelessly to help animals in need, we can keep their momentum going by coming together as a community to help replenish their supplies. Please visit the link below to view the Atchafalaya River Rescue Chewy Wish List, where you can easily donate Chewy eGift Cards that the rescue can apply toward any order they need right now.
A special THANK YOU from us at Pawsome Cattitude goes out to Chewy!

Bridget, Co‑Founder, hasn’t let a single second slip by since the flood hit. If she wasn’t urgently moving not only rescues, also her own animals to higher ground, she was coordinating every effort she could to save what was possible - a true angel.

Doug Ratner, CEO of I'd Rather Be With My Dog, reached out right after the flood — donated, offered supplies, and even launched a “Louisiana Strong” apparel line where 100% of proceeds support our little rescue here in Avoyelles Parish, #Louisiana.

One week ago today, Tropical Storm Arthur hit. We had no idea the floodwaters would rise so quickly, forcing us to relocate our rescues to safer ground. Many of our fosters flooded, and we have friends who lost everything. What we also didn’t know was that our parish had no emergency evacuation plan for animals.
We give thanks to the Moreauville Fire Department for driving through floodwaters to assist us.
We give thanks to the Veterinary Clinics of Avoyelles for opening space so our rescues had a dry, safe place to stay.
We give thanks to our out‑of‑state rescue partners who didn’t ask “how are you?” but instead, “what can we do from here?”
And we give thanks to every individual, small business, and organization that created fundraisers, sent essentials, and shared our experience on their platforms.
It’s always the community that rallies first and rallies fast. So many are working toward restoration and building a new “normal,” yet even through that, our community stands strong. And for that, we are forever grateful.

Every dollar —big or small, every share, every act of kindness helps us move animals from unwanted…to unstoppable.
Happy tails and thank you for believing in our small rescue.
As a small, foster‑based nonprofit rescue, every mile they drive and every life they save is powered by the generosity of people like you.
They truly cannot do this work without your support.
Here are ways to help them keep going and keep saving after the immediate need.

A special shoutout goes to our friends down in Louisiana, Biscuits & Barks, who immediately saw the need and jumped into action.
They are dropping off supplies this Friday, June 26th, and they need your help to fill the truck.
